An echo returned in 3sec. What is the distance of the source given that the speed of sound is 342m/s (ms-1)?

34

Explanation:

Given here

Time = 3sec

Speed = 342m/sec .

[ We know ]

speed =  \frac{(distane)}{time}

So,

Distance = Speed × time

= 342 ×3

= 1026 Meter

Answer:

513 meters.

Explanation:

As we know that,

Time=distance /speed,

NOTE:-This formula valid only when speed is constant as in this case.

For this case,

Time=2*(distance)/speed of sound,

Point to be noted:-Here we took 2*(distance) as the echo will only be produced when it travels back and forth,

Time =2*d/342,

Hence, we can say that d=342*3/2=513meters.
