8-year-old girl wins IYCT first price
An eight-year-old girl brought laurel to the state of Nagaland by winning the first prize in the International Youth Chess Tournament held in Spain. The young girl, Abino, showed her incredible talent by beating 150 other contestants from 29 countries.
The correspond from Nagaland Express found out that the young achiever was from a very poor family. Her parents earned their daily bread by cultivating vegetables in a small plot of land and selling them in the daily market. They said that they have no money to pay for their daughter to play in a competition in a foreign country. Abino's parents expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the generous people of the town who donated money to meet the travel costs and other expenses of their daughter. They said that without the kindness of the people, their daughter could never have achieved her dream to become an international chess champion.
