Given :

Magnitude of charge 1 (q₁) = +2μC

Magnitude of charge 2 (q₂) = -2μC

Distance between the charges = 1mm

To Find :

The magnitude of electric dipole moment of the dipole

Solution :

  • The magnitude of electric dipole (P) is

               P = q×d

  • In an electric dipole the charges of same magnitude q but of opposite magnitude are separated by a distance.So the charge of dipole is q
  • By substituting the given values in the equation

             P = q×d

             P = 2×1×10⁻³

             P = 2×10⁻³ C-m

The electric dipole moment of the dipole is 2×10⁻³ C-m
