The elector magnetic will be placed in uniform electric field E

And dipole moment p

(i) the work is done in turning the dipole till its dipole moment points

We have             W=∫θ₁ θ₂τdθ

                               W= ∫πθ pEsinθdθ

                               W=  pE [ -cosθ]πθ

                                W = -2pE

                                 τ = pEsinθ

(ii) the orientation  to the dipole for which the torque acting

For θ = π/2,  τ is maximum
