Given :

An electric fan of power 500 w and three bulbs of each power 200w used 10hrs both fan and bulbs.

To FinD :

Calculate electrical energy in the month of January and also calculate cost of electrical energy if rate is Rs 5/kwh.

Solution :

Analysis :

Here we first have found the total power of three bulbs and then have to find the power of the bulb and the fan together by adding up them. Then by calculating the total energy for the month of January and then by multiplying with the cost we will get the total cost.

Explanation :

First we have to calculate the power for 3 bulbs.

Power of one bulb = 200 W

Power of 3 bulbs = 200 × 3

= 600 W

Power of 3 bulbs = 600 W

Now the total power :

  • Power of Fan = 500 W
  • Power of 3 bulbs = 600 W

Total power = Power of Fan + Power of 3 bulbs

= 500 + 600

= 1100 W

Total power = 1100 W

  • Fan and bulb is working for 10 hours.

We know that if we are the power and the time and is asked to calculate the total energy then our required formula is,

Total Energy = Total Power × Time

where,

  • Total power = 1100 W
  • Time = 10 hrs

Units :

  • Unit of power = watt (W)
  • Unit of time = hour (hr)

Using the required formula and substituting the required values,

⇒ Total Energy = Total Power × Time

⇒ Total Energy = 1100 × 10

⇒ Total Energy = 11000

Total Energy = 11000 Wh

Conversion to Kilo-Watthour (kWh) :

1 kWh = 1000 Wh

⇒ 1 Wh = 1/1000 kWh

So,

⇒ 11000 Wh = 11000/1000 kWh

⇒ 11000 Wh = 11 kWh

Total Energy = 11 kWh.

Energy in January :

We know that there are 31 days in the month of January.

So,

We know that if we are the power and the time and is asked to calculate the electical energy then our required formula is,

Electrical Energy = Total Power × Time

where,

  • Total power = 11 kWh
  • Time = 31 days

Using the required formula and substituting the required values,

⇒ Electrical Energy = Total Power × Time

⇒ Electrical Energy = 11 × 31

⇒ Electrical Energy = 341

Electrical Energy = 341 kWh.

The Cost :

  • Cost per kWh = ₹ 5

So,

We know that if we are the electrical energy and the cost per kWh and is asked to calculate the cost of total electical energy then our required formula is,

Total cost = Cost per kWh × Electical energy

where,

  • Cost per kWh = ₹ 5
  • Electrical Energy = 341 kWh

Using the required formula and substituting the required values,

⇒Total cost = Cost per kWh × Electical energy

⇒Total cost = 5 × 341

⇒Total cost = 1705

Total Cost = ₹ 1705.

Electrical Energy = 341 kWh.

Cost = 1705.
