Answer:

An electric heater consumes 3.6 MJ when connected to a 250V supply for 40 minutes. Find the power rating of the heater and the current taken from the supply. i.e. Power rating of heater = 1.5 kW. Power P = VI thus I = P V = 1500 250 = 6A Hence the current taken from the supply is 6A.

GIVEN

An electric heater consume 3.6 MJ when connected to a 250 volt supply for 40 minutes.

TO FIND

Power rating of the heater and the current taken from the supply.

SOLUTION

The above problem can be simply solved as follows;

Power = Energy/Time

= 3.6 × 10⁶ J ÷ 2400

= 1.5KW

Applying the formula;

P = VI

Where,

P = power = 1.5Kw = 1500 watt

V = Voltage = 250 Vol

Putting the values

I = 1500/250

= 6 Ampere

Hence, The answer is 15Kw and 6 A
