An electric heater is rated 500 kVA, 220 V. If the heater is operated for 1 hour , calculate the energy consumed in (i) kWh and (ii) J.​

(i) Let Energy consumed = Power × Time = 1000 × 2 = 2000 kWh (ii) 1 kWh = 3.6 × 106 J Energy consumed = 2000 × 3.6 × 106 J = 7.2 × 109J .

Solution-

The energy consumed in 1 hour is

= 500 kVA × 1 hr = 500 kVAh = 500 kWh.

= 500 × 3.6 × 10⁶ J (∵ 1 kWh= 3.6 × 10⁶ J)

= 18 × 10⁸ J.
