An electric instrument which is connected to a 220 V line has two resistances coils A and B, each of 20 ohm resistance, which may be used separately, in series, or in parallel. What are the currents in the three cases?

CASE 1: SEPARATELY

R = 20

V = 220

I = V/R = 220/20 = 11 amperes

CASE 2: SERIES

R = 20+20 = 40

V = 220

I = 220/40 = 11/2 = 6.5 amperes

CASE 3: PARALLEL

R = 20+20/20*20 = 40/400 = 1/10

V = 220

I = 220/1/10 = 220*10 = 2200 amperes
