Water evaporates in 5 minutes = 630 gm

Given:

An electric kettle, which operates at a voltage of 220V,

Consumes power of 4A.

The efficiency of the kettle is 80%.

To find:

How much water evaporates in 5 minutes.

Explanation:

Electric power = efficiency × voltage × current

Electric power = 0.8 × 220 × 4

Electric power = 704 W

Heat supplied = 704 × 60×5 = 211.2 KJ

Consider room temperature = 20°C

Specific heat of water = 4.186 KJ/KgK

Heat Required to boil the water = Heat supplied

Heat Required to boil the water = m × Specific heat of water × (100-20)

                                            211.2  = m × 4.186 × 80

Mass water = 0.63 Kg = 630 gm

Water evaporates in 5 minutes = 630 gm
