An electric oven of resistance 125 ohm, a toaster of
resistance 50 ohm and an electric geyser of resistance
250 ohm are connected in parallel to a 220 V source.
What is the resistance of an electric iron connected
to the same source that takes as much current as all
the three appliances and what is the current through
[Ans. R = 31.25 ohm , I = 7.04 A]
it?

Answer:
- If an electric oven , a toaster and a geyser with resistance 125 , 50 and 250 ohm respectively are connect in parallel to a 220 V
- Then the equivalent resistance of parallel combination is 1/Rt = 1/125 + 1/50 + 1/250
- 2+5+1/250
=> 8/250
=> Rt = 31.25 ohm
- Also if an electric iron takes as much as current the all
- So firstly we have to find the total current of the three => V = IR
=>220 = I × 31.25
=> I = 220/31.25
=> I = 7.04 ampere
- Resistance of electric iron => V = IR
=> 220 = 7.04×R
=> R = 220/7.04
=> R = 31.25 ohm
