using first condition to calculate angle of elevation

tan a = 16/12 = 4/3

According to problem angle is same in both cases

tan a = height of tree/20

Height of tree = tan a × 20

=4/3 ×20

= 26.66m

Given :

An electric pole 16 metres high casts a shadow of 12 metres

To Find :

find the height of a tree that casts a shadow of 20 metres under similar conditions

Solution:

We are given that An electric pole 16 metres high casts a shadow of 12 metres

Height of pole = 16 m

Height of shadow = 12 m

We are supposed to find the height of a tree that casts a shadow of 20 metres under similar conditions

Let x be the height of a tree that casts a shadow of 20 metres

So, \frac{16}{12}=\frac{x}{12}

\frac{16}{12} \times 12 = x

16 = x

So,the height of a tree that casts a shadow of 20 metres is 16 m
