This breaks the circuit and prevents the appliances and possible fires. Thus it is desirable that the melting point of the fuse wire is less that that of copper wire. If we use a copper wire instead of a fuse and if the current accidentally exceeds the safety limit, the fuse wire will not melt and break the circuit. This may damage the electrical appliances and may cause fire also.
