An electromagnetic wave is propagating along x direction, the magnetic field oscillating at a frequency 5×10 8HZ and has an amplitude 10 -7T , acting along the y direction. (a) what is the wavelength of the wave? (b) write the expression representing the corresponding oscillating electric field.

Explanation:

(a) frequency*wavelength=speed of electromagnetic wave

wavelngth = 3 \times  {10}^{8}  \div (5 \times  {10}^{8} )

•°•,

wavelength =  \frac{3}{5}  = 0.6m

(b)

 \frac{e}{b}  = c

e = b \times c

•°•,

e =  {10}^{ - 7}  \times (3 \times  {10}^{8} ) = 30

amplitude of electric field(e) = 30V/m

w=2π*frequency = π×10^9 rad/s

k=2π/wavelength = 10π/3 m^-1

E=e[sin(wt-kx)]

E=30 [sin(π×10^9t - 10π/3x)] V/m
