An electron with charge e enters a uniform. magnetic field B with a velocity v. The velocity is perpendicular to the magnetic field. The force on the charge e is given by F = Bev Obtain the dimensions of B.

The force on the charge e is given by, F = BeV

we have to find dimension of B.

we know, dimension of force, F = [ML²T-²]

dimension of charge , e = [AT]

dimension of velocity, v = [LT-¹]

from dimensional analysis,

dimension of F = dimension of {BeV}

or, dimension of F = dimension of B × dimension of e × dimension of v

or, [ML²T-²] = dimension of B × [AT] × [LT-¹]

or, dimension of B = [ML²T-²]/[AL]

= [MLT-²A-¹]

hence, dimension of B = [M¹L¹T-²A-¹]
