First of all we must know that what are electric field lines . Felines are isoclines and if we take derivative of these lines at a at point we get the direction of electric field suppose in an open space lines become discontinuity there will be at least no electric seat because derivative at a discontinuity does not exist if electric field vanishes at that point then coulombs law will not fall at that point.

Answer:

  • An electrostatic line is a continuous curve, because tangent to it at any point represents the direction in which a test charge kept at that point will experience force.
  • It cannot have sudden breaks, because no abrupt force acts on a test charge.
