Answer :-

→ Valency of element A = +5

→ Formula of chloride of 'A' = ACl

Explanation :-

Formula of a compound is given AO .

We know that, while writing formula of a compound, valencies of the cation and the anion are criss crossed .

Since the valency of Oxygen is -2 (anion), so valency of the element 'A' will be = +5 .

______________________________

Now, we need to write the formula of Chloride of element A . Here, A is cation and chlorine is anion .

• Valency of A = +5

• Valency of Chlorine (Cl) = -1

The required formula by crossing valencies will be :-

= A₁Cl₅

= ACl

Some Extra Information :-

The valencies of some other important elements are :-

→ Hydrogen (H) = +1

→ Carbon (C) = 4

→ Sodium (Na) = +1

→ Aluminium (Al) = +3

 \sf\tt\large{\red {\underline {\underline{⚘\;Question 1:}}}}

  • An element forms an oxide A2O5.

  1. what will be the element of chloride A.

 \sf\tt\large{\red {\underline {\underline{⚘\;Answer:}}}}

  • Let us first define what is valency?

  • It is defined as the combining power of the element Specifically as measured by total number of hydrogen atoms it can easily displace or combine with.

Consider ,

  • The valency of element A be y,
  • Then,

  • 2y+5 (-2)=0

  • Therefore, y=element of A=5.

  • An element forms an oxide A2O5.

  1. What will be the formula of chloride of the element .

 \sf\tt\large{\red {\underline {\underline{⚘\;Answer:}}}}

  • We know that,

  1. The valency of an atom equals to the number of electrons in the outer shell.If that number may four or less than 4.

  • Since, here

  • Valency of element A is 5 and valency of chlorine is -1

  • Therefore, The formula of chloride of the element is (ACl 5) .
