It has given that an element has two isotope. the mass of one isotope is (A - 1) and other is (A + 2).

if the average is A.

let fractional abundance of isotope with mass (A + 2) is x and other isotope with mass (A - 1) is (1 - x).

now, (A + 2)x + (A - 1)(1 - x) = A

⇒Ax + 2x + A - Ax - 1 + x = 0

⇒3x - 1 = 0

⇒x = 1/3

percentage abundance of isotope with mass (A + 2) is 33.33% and other isotope with mass (A - 1) is 66.67 %
