An element has eleven protons and twelve neutrons in its nucleus. There are ten electrons present in it.

a. Is it an atom or an ion? Justify your answer.

b. If it is an ion, will it be a cation or an anion? Give a reason for your answer.

a) It is an ion or cation because it is positive as the number of electrons is less than the protons.

b) It will be cation because it has 1 proton extra than the number of electrons.

c) It is metal because it is Sodium because Sodium contains 11 protons and 12 neutrons and sodium is a metal.

d) Any element in group 1 has just one valence electron normally but now here sodium has a extra electron missing so now it's valency will be 2 and 2 valence electrons. It's valence shell normally will be M but in this case it will be L.

IT IS NOT COPIED FROM GOOGLE.
