An element has its electron configuration as 2,8,2.now answer the following questions. a. what is the atomic number of this element?.


QGP: (2,8,2) just gives you the arrangement of electrons in orbits.
QGP: Total number of electrons = 2+8+2 = 12 electrons
QGP: So, in the atom, there would be 12 protons as well.
QGP: So, atomic number is Z=12. The element is Magnesium (Mg)
