Oxygen in ionic form is as oxide O2-.

So if element M forms MO, it means M in ionic form is M2+.

For reaction with chlorine, Cl in ionic form is Cl-.

So compound is MCl2

For reaction with sulphur, S in ionic form is S2-.

So compound is MS.
