The correct answer is option (D).16

Explanation :

  • Since the electronic configuration of element with atomic no 8 is given as  :

        1s^2\hspace3 2s^2 \hspace3 2p^4

  • Now the element which resembles this element will have the same no of unpaired electrons as in the element with atomic no 8. .
  • Since the total no of unpaired electrons of the element =2
  • So, here the element having atomic no 16 has electronic configuration as :

        1s^2 \hspace3 2s^2 \hspace3 2p^6 \hspace3 3s^2 \hspace3 3p^4

  • So, it has two unpaired electrons .

Hence , the element whose atomic no is 16 resembles the element with atomic no 8 .
