The element is magnesium
Electronic configuration = 2,8,2
It is a metal .
Because it will lose two electrons to become electropositive. Hence it is a metal.

Molecular formula when magnesium reacts with element having electronic configuration 2,6 means oxygen.

Mg + O2 --------> MgO (magnesium Oxide )
And next element with configuration
2,8,7 means chlorine

Compound form is magnesium chloride (MgCl2)

Hope this helps
Is it the best one

Thank you
