An element 'X' belongs to 3rd period & group 16th of periodic table. (1) determine number of valence electron & valency of 'X' (2) molecular formula when 'X' reacts with hydrogen & write the dot structure. (3) name the element 'X' & state whether it is metallic or non-metallic

1

1.valence electron =6

Valency =(8-6)=2

2. Valency of hydrogen =1

Valency of X=2

Thus molecular formula of hydrides of X = XH2

....X: .H GIVES XH2 both complete their octets and duplets

3.Non metallic as it would gains electrons to complete it's octet
