An element x belongs to 3rd period and second group of the modern periodic table.
The element magnesium belongs to 3rd period and 2nd group....as period tells the shell no. and group tells the no of valence electrons in the last shell.....so its K and L shell are completely filled and it has 2 shells in the outermost shell...so it has a total of 12 electrons(2+8+2)...and there are three shells...
hope it helps u out...
