An element ‘X’ forms an oxide. This oxide reacts with HCl as well as NaOH to form salt and
water. Name the kind of this oxide and give one example. Write its chemical reaction either
with HCl or NaOH.

THE ELEMENT X HERE IS AN AMPHOTERIC OXIDE AS IT BOTH REACT WITH ACIDS ( HERE HCL) AND BASES ( HERE NaOH).

EXAMPLES OF AMPHOTERIC OXIDES ARE

----Al2O3 (ALUMINUM OXIDE) AND ZnO (ZINC OXIDE) .

CHEMICAL REACTION

Al203 + 6 HCL ▶ 2 AlCl3 + 3H20

I HOPE THIS HELPS.

Hey Friend,

HCl is an acid and NaOH is a base! So, for X to react with both acid and base...it needs to be an Amphoteric Oxide.
Amphoteric oxides are such oxides which act as base when react with acid and act as acid when react with base!

Some amphoteric oxides are Al2O3 , PbO, ZnO, SnO2 ...

1. Al2O3

    *with HCl
Al2O3 + 6HCl ---> 2AlCl3 + 3H2O

   * with NaOH
Al2O3 + 2NaOH ---> 2NaAlO2 + H2O

2. ZnO

   *with HCl
ZnO + 2HCl ---> ZnCl2 + H2O

   *with NaOH
ZnO + 2NaOH ---> Na2ZnO2 + H2O

Hope it helps!
