Answer:

K shell capacity = 2

L shell capacity = 8

M shell capacity = 18

Element X:

If M shell has 1 election then it means it already completed k's full capacity and L's full capacity and occupies m shell with 1 electron

Therefore Element X atomic no. = 2+8+1

=>11

Therefore Element X is Sodium (Na)

Element Y:

If M shell has 3 election then it means it already completed k's full capacity and L's full capacity and occupies m shell with 7 electron

electronTherefore Element Y atomic no. = 2+8+7

=>17

Therefore Element Y is Chlorine (Cl)

a)Write the formula of the compound formed

Ans: NaCl (Ionic bond)

b)Which nearest inert gas electronic configuration will element X and Y acquire.

Ans: For element X = Neon (Ne) with atomic no 10 and electronic configuration = 2,8

For element Y = Argon (Ar) with atomic no 18 and electronic configuration = 2,8,8

c)Show by orbital diagram the formation of compound between X and Y.
