An element "x" has mass number 35 and the number of neutrons, is 18. Identify the group number and period of "x".

as we know that mass number is equal to the sum of number of neutron and number of proton .
Mass number =proton +neutron.
35=18+proton
proton =35-18=17.

therefore electrons also will be 17 in that element because number of electron is equal to number of proton....
so electronic configuration will be
17 =2,8,7.
as we know that number of shell is equal group number. therefore this element from 3rd group.
so atomic number of that element is 17 because number of proton is equal to atomic number.
therefore atomic number of that element is 17. so that element will be chlorine. therefore chlorine from 17th group
