an element X has valency 3 while the element Y has valency 2.
write the formula of the compound between X and Y

999kunjal: While writing the compound's formula, you exchange the valency and write.
999kunjal: here the valency of ferric thats 3 goes to oxygen, and the valency of oxygen that is 2 comes to ferric.
999kunjal: so ferric is element x with valency 3 and oxygen is element y with valency 2. it is just exchanged and written.
Siddiquisahil: bt according to me we can't do this.
999kunjal: Thats how i have learnt it....ok, lets take for example water, the elements in it are hydrogen and oxygen and hydrogen has valency 1 and oxygen 2. So, while writing the compound we exchange its valencies and write it as H2O right? .....where valency of hydrogen and oxygen get replaced.
999kunjal: Exchanged rather than replaced
999kunjal: its called the criss cross method...
Siddiquisahil: Criss cross method is used to make compound.
Siddiquisahil: Criss cross method is used to make compound.
Siddiquisahil: bt when this type of question is given then u can't use criss cross method .

X2Y3
The valencies of the elements should be exchanged and written in a compound and should also be coprime.
