Compound formula of element X with N and O.

Explanation:

  • An element X has Z = 13 which means its atomic number = 13.
  • Atomic number defines as the number of protons in an atom nucleus or we can say number of electrons in an atom.
  • So, element X has 13 electrons thus its electronic configuration will be 2, 8, 3 therefore to get nearest noble gas configuration it will lose 3 electrons.
  • For compound formula between X and N,  X can lose 3 electrons so, charge on X will be +3. N can gain 3 electrons as its electronic configuration is 2, 5 therefore it gains 3 electrons. so, charge on N will be -3.

                              X     N

                              +3    -3

  • So, compound formula between X and N will be XN.
  • For compound formula between X and O, X has charge +3. Charge on O will be -2 as its electronic configuration is 2, 6 which means it can gain 2 electrons to get stable configuration.
  • Therefore, compound formula between X and O is X₂O₃.

           X   O

          +3   -2
