E. C of X = 2,8,3.as it is Aluminium.
At. No. 17 = Chlorine
Therefore when X will react with Cl it will form XCl3 or AlCl3.
as it is given in question we will write it X.
Its oxide will be both acidic and basic as it is amphoteric in nature. It will react with both acid and base to give salt and water.

The element is placed so because the elements which have three shells can be placed and it is placed in the third period because it should surely have three electrons in the valence shell
