The valency of Z is 3 and it is a metal.

  • As per reaction with all the given non-metals, the oxidation state of Z turns out to be +3.
  • As we know, Chlorine has a charge of -1 and oxygen has a charge of -2. The valency of phosphorus is -3 and hydrogen has 1 electron in its outermost shell.
  • Thus, three ions of Z react with hydrogen and chlorine. One ion combines with phosphorus and 2 ions with oxygen.
  • Z is metallic as it combines with non-metals. This states it's the ability to lose electrons and hence electropositive character
