an elevator depends into a mine shaft at the rate of 6m / min . if the descent starts from 12m below the ground level how long will it take to reach - 330m​

GIVEN :

  • Initial position = 12m
  • final position = - 330m( negative because elevator is going below the groud level )
  • elevator descend rate = 6m/min

STEPS :

  • First, we will find the total distance elevator has to travel.
  • Second, we will find time.

SOLUTION :

Step 1 : Distance elevator has to travel

= initial position - final position

= 12 - (- 330)

= 342 m

Step 2 : Elevator descend rate given is 6m/min, it means elevator travel 6 m in one minute.

so, elevator travel 1 m in 1/6 minute.

Time taken by elevator to travel 342 m

= 1/6 × 342

= 57 minutes

ANSWER :

Elevator whose initial position is 10m will take 57 minutes to reach 330 m below groud level.
