An elevator descends into a mine shaft at the rate of 3m per minute. If the descents starts from 20m above the ground level, how long will it take to reach —160m.​

Total distance=initial position- final position

=20-(-160)

=20+160

=180m

Now,

Elevator descends 3m/min

Elevator travels 3m in 1min

Elevator travels 1m in 1/6min

Elevator travels 180 m = 180×1/6min

=180/6

= 30 min
