An elevator descends into a mine shaft at the rate of 6 metre/ minute. if the descend start from 20m above ground level how long will it take to reach -220m

Answer:

speed: 6m/min

distance above ground= 20 m

we will take it as -20 because the shaft will go 20 m downwards

it has to reach -220 me below ground

total distance to be covered= -220+(-20)

= -220-20 =  - 240m

time = distance/speed

= -240/6

= -40

time can never be negative so we will mark it as 40 minutes only

answer :40 minutes
