An elevator descends into a mine shaft at the rate of 6m/minute. If the descend starts from 20m above the ground level, how long will it take to reach -370m. Also find its position after half an hour.

An elevator descends into mine shaft at the rate of 6 meter per minute.

So, for 1 min elevator descends 6 meters.

The position of the elevator after one hour =

We know,

1 hour =60 min

60 min x 6 meters=360 meters..

But the elevator began to descend from 20 meters above.

So,

360 - 20= " 340 meters."

It's position after 45 mins  = 45 meters x 6 mins

                                         = 270 meters.

The elevator has descended from 15 meters above

So,

270 - 15 meters = 225 meters
