Solution -

• An elevator descends into a mine shaft at a rate of 7 m/min.

• The descent starts at a height of 10m above the ground .

• It has to reach a depth of -340 m .

We have to find how long it takes the elevator to reach that depth .

Let us proceed.

Total distance to be covered -

> 340m + 10m

> 350 m .

The rate is @ 7 m/min

Time taken -

> 350/7 min

> 50 min .

Answer . It takes 50min for the elevator to descent into the required height in the mine shaft .

  • The elevator take 50 min to reach -340m.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

  • An elevator descends into a mine shaft at the rate of 7 m/min.

  • The descent starts from 10 m above the ground level.

To Find:-

  • How long will it take to reach –340m.

Solution:-

Total Distance = 340m + 10m = 350m

As given,

Rate/Speed = 7m/min

Time = \dfrac{Distance}{Speed}

Time = \dfrac{350}{7}

Time = 50\:min

Hence, The elevator take 50 min to reach -340m.
