An elevator descends into a mineshaft at the rate of 5m/min. If the descent starts from 15m above the ground. How long will it take to reach -350m?

Since we are considering a height above the ground, so we will add the distance ( i.e. 15 m ) to the total distance the elevator will need to travel.

So total distance needed to travel = 15 + 350 = 365 m

Speed of elevator = 5 m / minute

So,

Time taken = 365 / 5 = 73 minutes
