An elevator is 20m below the ground level and it ascends at the rate of 5m/min. Find the time taken by it to reach 45m above the ground level.

Height of the elevator below the ground level = -25 m

Rate of ascending = 5m/min

The elevator has to reach 50 m above the ground level.

That means, the elevator has to go up and hence the distance covered by it will be positive.

Thus, total distance that elevator has to cover =

50 + 25 75 m 75 + 5 = 15 min

Hence, time taken by elevator to cover 75 m = 75 + 5 = 15 min
