In the photo u = intial velocity. W = F (weight = Force). g = a = acceleration. s = distance.

Explanation:

Given An elevator of mass 3000 kg starting from rest. How far does it rise in 4 s, if upward tension in supporting cable is 36000 N?

Given mass of elevator = 3000 kg

Also upward tension = 36,000 N

We know that

T – mg = m x a

36000 – 3000 x 10 = 3000 a

36000 – 30000 = 3000 a

3000 a = 6000

So a = 2 m /s

Now u = 0, a = 2, t = 4 s

S = ut + 1/2 at^2

S = 0 + 1/2 x 2 x 4 x 4

S = 16 m
