Given:  An employee at a nuclear power plant in New York has an annual salary of $143 000 and is paid every two weeks.

The employee works twenty days in a month, five days in a week, and eight hours in a day.

(Assume 52 weeks in a year)

To Find :

a) What is the gross pay per pay period?

b) What is the employee's hourly rate of pay?

Solution:

Annual salary =   $143 000

52 weeks in a year

=> Salary of 52 weeks  = $143 000

=> Salary of 1 week   = $143 000/52

=> Salary of 1 week   =   $ 2750

five days in a week

=> Salary of 5 Days =  $ 2750

=>  Salary of 1 Day =  $ 2750 /5

=> Salary of 1 Day =  $ 550

eight hours in a day.

=> Salary of 8 hrs  = $ 550

=> Salary of 1 hr   = $ 550/8

=> Salary of 1 hr   = $ 68.75

gross pay per pay period  =  $ 550

employee's hourly rate of pay  = $ 68.75
