An empty inverted glass tumbler does not sink in water when vertically inserted why?

Because though it is empty it has air inside it which cannot escape.Resulting to prevent sinking.

The trapped air bubble makes the overall density of beaker+air less than that of water, so the beaker floats. If the beaker tips over and the air bubble escapes, the beaker will sink.
