Work is done when there is a displacement in the point of application in the direction of force.

Work done = Force * Displacement

Given : Displacement = 1 km = 1000 m

Force = 500000 N

But the force is frictional. Hence work is done against the force and the displacement happens in the direction opposite to that of the force applied.

Therefore, the work done is negative.

Work done = - 500000 * 1000 = -500000000 Nm or joule = -500 * 10^(6) joule = -500 MJ

Answer : Work done = -500 mega joule
