An engineer is designing a runway for an airport. Several planes will use the runway and the engineer must design it so that it is long enough for the largest planes to become airborne before the runway ends. If the largest plane accelerates at 3.06 m/s/s and has a takeoff speed of 87.5 m/s, then what is the minimum allowed length for the runway?

Hi budfy,

The hard part in this question is only the length , nothing much to worry.

#Approach

In this case , these are given,

A=3.06m/s^2

V=87.5m/s. (final velocity)

#Interpretation

We need to understand that ,

U=0m/s (intitial velocity)

#Solving

Using our

V^2-U^2=2AS

We have

S= (87.5^2-0)/2(3.06)

S=1251.021 m

So the minimul length of the track must be close to 1252m or 1.252 km.

HOPE IT HELPS!!
