Given :  an entrance examination for admission to a first degree course in medicine was conducted at the national level  mean and standard deviation of marks 40 and 8, respectively.

To find :  marks obtained corresponding to standard marks 1.30 and 1.50.

Solution :

Z score = ( Value - Mean )/ Standard Deviation

Mean = 40

SD =  8

for 50 Marks

Z score  = ( 50  - 40)/8

=> Z = 10/8 = 5/4

For 60 Marks

Z score  = ( 60  - 40)/8

=> Z = 20/8 = 5/2

the standard marks of students getting 50 and 60 marks. = 1.25  &   2.5 in terms of   standard deviation

marks obtained corresponding to standard marks 1.30 and 1.50.

1.3 = ( value - 40)/8

=> 10.4 = Value - 40

=> Value = 50.4

1.5 =  ( value - 40)/8

=> 12 = Value - 40

=> Value = 52

the marks obtained corresponding to standard marks 1.30 and 1.50.

= ( 50.4  & 52 )
