An equation of the type y=mx represents a line passing through the origin . Can anyone explain this with example pls. How does it pass through the origin???

Step-by-step explanation:

From the basic knowledge relating lines, we know,

Equations of lines are discribed according to y - y_1 = m( x - x_1 )

*where m is the slope of line and ( x_1, y_1 ) is point on line.

Here, we have y = mx

= > y = mx

= > y - 0 = m( x )

= > y - 0 = m( x - 0 ) ... (1)

On comparing (1) with y - y_1 = m( x - x_1 ),

We can say that ( 0,0 ) is a point lying on that line.

Hence we can say that the line passes through origin.
