Solution :

Let the distance travelled be x

Time taken by the escalator to take a man to reach his destination = 6 seconds

speed of the escalator = Distance/time

speed of the escalator = x/6

Time taken by the man to reach his destination if he walks = 4 seconds

speed of the man = distance/time

speed of the man = x/4

Let time taken by the man if he walks on the escalator be t seconds.

speed of man + speed of escalator = x/t

x/6 + x/4 = x/t

1/6 + 1/4 = 1/t

1/t = (4+6)/24

1/t = 10/24

t = 24/10

t = 2.4 seconds
