                               Disadvantages of CCE System

CCE Pattern was introduced to improve the standard of education up to Senior Secondary levels at schools. Its aim was to reduce the burden of studies from the mind of the students. Earlier the students had to memorize the entire year’s syllabus of all the subjects, making it really very hard for students. However, the CCE educational reforms have freed them of this burden. They have tried to make learning fun and exciting. The most important aspect of these reforms is they have made the education free of cut-throat competitiveness.

CCE refers to a system of school based evaluation of student that covers all aspects of student development. The major emphasis of CCE is on the continuous growth of students ensuring their intellectual, emotional, physical, cultural and social development and therefore it will not be merely limited to assessment of learner’s scholastic attainments.

Everything has two sides. Even the fire that is so helpful for man can be dangerous at times if not handled properly. Similarly, CCE system if not handled properly can be extremely inefficient and unproductive. Unfortunately, the CCE system is very challenging. The task of conducting Formative Activities has added much more burdened on students as well as teachers. In each FA minimum three activities are a must for each subject. So in one FA the number of activities is almost 15 activities. Students and teachers are finding it difficult to cope up with the pressure and stress of doing these activities honestly. They are using unfair means in getting these activities done.

The most shocking disadvantage of CCE system is, majority of teachers and schools are awarding more marks to students than they deserve in FA activities to score more 10 CGPAS. In the long run it is doing more harm than good to students and the nation.

The CCE system is complex and challenging which requires more skilled and innovative teachers for its successful implementation. Unfortunately, our nation lacks such talented and creative teachers. The Education Ministry must look into these aspects and take actions to remove these drawbacks from the CCE system to make it truly effective.
