Modern life is in some ways making people but lonely, but in other ways not. There is no definite answer to this question but a wide variety. Lots of people feel lonely because there is a lot less face to face contact and instead everyone is absorbed in their own mini universes on their phones. Although for some, the modern age and new technology reconnects people with lost loved ones or family members that they had previously been out of touch with, making there lives a lot less lonely.
