Farmers are the backbone of any nation especially India. Around 75% of the total population if India lives in villages and their main occupation is farming. The food in our tables is because of the farmers but still, they are poor and their wages are very minimal.
If we look at the hardship of a farmer, it is incomparable with any other profession. An instance of a farmer's life is shared below.
They have to wake up early in the morning and work all day.
They have to plow the land, sow the seeds. Then water them regularly, spray insecticide and pesticides to protect them from insects and pests.
They also have to add fertilizers.
With all these hard works, it is not guaranteed that they will succeed as farming is dependent on nature. With the help of science and technology, there has been much improvement in the traditional way of farming but again Global warming is a concern. Because of global warming, the weather is unpredictable, some areas have drought while others are flooded. Thus the condition of the Indian farmer is not good if we look at it from a macro perspective. The NEWS is filled with farmers committing suicide. This is the reason why governments have come up with many schemes to help the farmers. Some of the schemes are mentioned below:
• Soil Health Card Scheme
• Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
• Neem Coated Urea (NCU)
• Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY)
• Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY)
The general population should be made aware of the hardships and the conditions of the farmer. They should realize that it takes a whole lot of effort to just have a handful of rice, so avoid wastage of food.
