It was a little after 6pm. As it was winter, the sun set early and so at 6 pm it was quite dark. We had all gone their for our winter vacation. It was cold to put it mildly. There was a chill in the air and it felt like the air was biting our bones. Fingers felt numb and nose and ears felt like frozen. As Dad, Mom and me trudged uphill, all we could see was just a few feet ahead. All three of us held hands for fear that we don't lose each other. Finally, we reached a place where the road started to go downhill. Now as it happens when going down a steep downhill road, all of us were walking very fast, no we were almost running. All of a sudden, my right hand began to be pulled and so my left hand which was held by Dad slipped. Before I could realize what was happening, me and Mom rolled downhill. Dad was screaming, Mom was screaming and I felt as if my throat was choked, no sound came out of it. Mom and me were lucky that there was a turn ahead and we, instead of turning went straight onto the grass and hit a bed of flowers beside the road. That saved our lives and averted something fatal. Till today when I recall the incident, I cringe with fear.
